Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has budgeted several hundred million NT dollars to strengthen its power management (PWM) IC production by establishing a group focused on developing partnerships with leading Taiwan-based analog IC design houses and seeking potential orders from system makers, according to an Economic Daily News (EDN) report. The report states that TSMC is hoping to diversify its production and take advantage of the higher margins from PWM IC products. It also suggests that the move will help Taiwan-based players compete more effectively against PWM IC leaders including Intersil and Linear Technology.
