Supplying storage solutions: Q&A with Acard Technology

Acard Technology is best known for its SCSIDE bridge solution, which allows IDE, and now SATA, drives to be aggregated on a SCSI interface. This allows mass data storage solutions that have all the virtues of SCSI without the expense of SCSI disk drives. The arrival of the SATA interface won't mean the death of the SCSIDE bridge any time soon, but while this adapter has been a very successful product for Acard, the company has not been standing still. Acard has been diversifying its product lineup, and at this year's Computex, in June, the company was showing SCSI RAID subsystems for the SOHO sector as well as an intriguing USB Mirror product that utilizes iVDR technology, designed to use cartridge-type hard disk drives as a means of portable storage. Acard's controllers are all designed in-house, and today Acard can boast that it is the only design company, worldwide, implementing both IDE and SCSI controller IC design. The intriguing product lineup also includes the Ha! CD/DVD burning software, written and developed in-house.
