Ray Chen, president of notebook manufacturer Compal Electronics, stated that the upcoming launch of Intel’s Napa platform will help lift the ASP (average selling price) for notebooks. However, the benefit to notebook makers’ gross margins will be limited, as it will take time for Napa-based notebooks to become pervasive in the market, Chen commented. Initial production of Napa notebooks will be small in volume, Chen added.
